SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY
This outlines my practice’s policies and procedures related to use of Social Media. Please read it to understand how we will conduct myself on the Internet as a licensed mental health professional, and how you can expect me to respond to interactions that may occur between us on the internet.
Separate Accounts
Brittany Cephas, LCPC Mental Health Services, LLC maintains separate accounts to be used for the sole purpose of professional matters regarding Brittany Cephas, LCPC Mental Health Services, LLC dba Growing Young Minds Counseling. These accounts are separate from any personal accounts held by Brittany Cephas as an individual.
Please use email to contact me for administrative concerns (i.e. adjustments to appointments, billing information, etc.). Please do not email specific information related to mental crises or content about counseling sessions, unless otherwise discussed beforehand. We use best practices to protect your confidentiality. Please note that any emails we receive from you and responses I send to you become a part of your legal record.
Text Messages
Please do not send messages, unless otherwise agreed upon. Any text message we receive from you becomes a part of your legal record.
Following
We will not follow any client on Twitter, Instagram, FaceBook, blogs, or other apps/websites. If there is content you wish to share from your online life, please bring it into our sessions where we can explore it together.
Fanning
You may ‘like’ my FaceBook, Instagram, or Google business page. My business platform exists to provide information, so we will not engage in conversations with you on that platform.
Friending
We do not accept friend or contact requests from current or former clients on any social networking sites. Adding clients as friends on these sites can compromise your confidentiality and our therapeutic relationship.
Search Engines
It is not a normal part of my practice to search for clients on Google, Facebook, or other social networking platforms. However, an exception could be during a crisis. If we have reasonable suspicion you are a danger to yourself or others, and we have exhausted all other means of contacting you/your emergency contact, then we may use a search engine for information to ensure your welfare. If this ever occurs, will fully document the search and discuss it with you.
If you have any questions about my policy, please be sure to bring them up when we meet and we can talk more about it. Social media is also something that is constantly changing and there may be times when we need to update this policy. If this happens, we will post the policy on my website and inform you of the changes.
